The 55x5 Method (and the Two Cup Method)
Quick answer: what are the 55x5 and two cup methods?
The 55x5 method means writing one goal sentence 55 times a day for 5 days in a row, 275 lines in total. The two cup method is a short ritual where you label two cups, one for where you are and one for where you want to be, then pour the water from the first into the second and drink it.
Full disclosure: we built iManifest
The iManifest team wrote this guide, and iManifest was founded by Steven Zee. We mention our own tools near the end; both rituals work fine on paper with no app at all.
What is the 55x5 method?
It's a short, intense writing ritual. Instead of a few lines spread across many weeks, you pack a lot of repetition into one focused week.
Where the 55x5 method comes from
Like the 369 method, it spread on social media and in manifesting circles. There's no single inventor and no study behind it, so treat it as a focus habit, not a formula.
55x5 vs. the 369 method
The 369 method is gentle and long: 18 lines a day for weeks. The 55x5 method is short and heavy: 55 lines a day for 5 days.
How to do the 55x5 method step by step
Set aside 15 to 20 minutes a day for five days. Most people do it in one sitting.
Step 1: Pick one goal
One goal only. Pick something you can also take action on this week.
Step 2: Write one sentence
Keep it short, positive and in the present tense. You'll write it 275 times, so every word should earn its place.
Step 3: Write it 55 times a day
Use the same notebook and, if you can, the same time each day. Number the lines so you don't lose count.
Step 4: Repeat for 5 days in a row
If you miss a day, most people simply restart the 5 days. Consistency is the whole point.
Step 5: Close the notebook and let it rest
After day 5, stop writing that sentence. Keep showing up for the actions that go with it.
Picking a sentence you can write 275 times
A sentence you don't believe gets harder to write every time. A believable one gets easier.
Good 55x5 sentence examples
- "I am sending five pitches every weekday."
- "I am the kind of person who finishes what I start."
- "I am training three times this week, no excuses."
Sentences to avoid
- Anything that depends only on luck, like winning a contest.
- Anything about controlling another person's choices.
- Anything so big your gut laughs at it.
What is the two cup method?
The two cup method is a quick visualization ritual with two glasses of water. It takes about five minutes and is often done once, for one specific change.
The idea behind it
The cups stand for two versions of your life: where you are now and where you want to be. Pouring the water is a physical way to say "I'm choosing this," which many people find makes the goal feel real.
How to do the two cup method
You need two cups, water, two sticky notes and a pen.
Step 1: Label cup one
Write your current situation on the first note and stick it on cup one. Fill that cup with water.
Step 2: Label cup two
Write the situation you want on the second note, in the present tense. Stick it on the empty cup.
Step 3: Hold, picture, pour
Hold cup one and think about where you are. Then picture the change you want for a minute and pour the water into cup two.
Step 4: Drink and write your next step
Drink the water from cup two. Then write one action you'll take in the next 24 hours.
Rituals vs. results: the daily proof line
Rituals focus your attention. Results come from what you do with that focus.
Add one proof line a day
At the end of each day, write one thing you did that moved the goal forward. Small counts: one email, one workout, one honest conversation.
Why proof lines matter
A week of proof lines turns a nice feeling into a track record. That's the habit we build at iManifest with missions and Log a Win.
Doing it with iManifest
Both rituals are free to do on paper. If you want structure, iManifest members get daily missions, courses on manifesting and a Log a Win feed where real progress earns rewards.
55x5 method FAQ
How long does the 55x5 method take?
Five days, about 15 to 20 minutes a day. Most people finish 55 lines in one sitting.
What if I miss a day of the 55x5 method?
Most people restart the 5 days. If that feels like too much, just continue, then use the 369 method for a gentler pace next time.
Can I do the two cup method more than once?
Yes. Many people do it once for one change, then repeat it later for a new goal.
Do these rituals work on their own?
No ritual can promise a result. They help you focus, and focus works best when you back it with action every day.
